Background

I enjoy the challenge of combining creative, tactical and strategic thinking in all my communication campaigns across every channel to the benefit of brand name clients that include Sony, Microsoft, Lenovo, Toshiba, Johnson & Johnson, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Mazda, BMW, Rogers Communications, Melia Resorts International, Diageo, Adidas, the Canadian Football League, the National Hockey League, McDonald’s, Unilever and Nissan North America to name a few.

Creative that performs is the result of my experience and confidence in collaborating with directors, designers, developers, analysts, writers, editors, photographers, illustrators, producers, media buyers, account managers, social and executive team leaders.

I’m motivated by discovering and sharing brand stories, realizing a creative vision, maintaining attention to detail, strategic thinking, planning and direction. Both clients and organizations appreciate my understanding and passion towards the needs of their brands, and I maintain that relationship through inspired presentations and a collaborative, professional management attitude during the process.

I pride myself on a confidence to lead, inspire and successfully create within a group effort, and both bridge and build working relationships with clients and team members through experience, passion and integrity.

Interests

Other than brainstorms, white-boarding, last minute presentations, new business development, client face-time, strategic thinking, briefs, analytics and innovative thinking, I enjoy watching movies whenever possible, playing any and all sports, reading both fiction and non-fiction, painting and drawing, beers and ribs, creative writing, visiting museums and galleries, theatre and live music, singing karaoke, video games, Pokemon Go and exploring my new home of Austin, Texas with my wife and son.

The Auto Ad Agency: Senior Art Director/Graphics Department Manger (2018 – 2020)

Collaborated with clients and internal teams to strategize, create, design and implement full digital, social and television campaigns for numerous major automotive brands and retailers across the U.S. Managing designers, budgets, timelines, deliverables, processes and policies I ensured these cohesive campaign were created and executed successfully with the support of inspired team direction, organization and experienced oversight.

THE MARKETING STORE: Senior Art Director (2005 – 2013)

As Senior Art Director with The Marketing Store, I’ve been fortunate to work with high profile clients requiring innovative solutions to their marketing needs. This includes working with McDonald’s Canada on a range of promotions that involved exclusive digital/on-pack/in-store activations like The Big Mac Hockey Bash, the digital/social media campaign Big Mac Fanatic and premium promotions such as NHL Star Sticks and Mini Star Helmets. I have also worked with Guinness/Rugby Canada and Red Stripe in developing various online, out-of-home and in-bar POS promotions, as well as Unilever’s Slim-Fast brand activation where I produced a unique award winning digital/in store promotion. Another key client has been Nissan North America, for whom I’ve worked closely with to sustain and evolve their Nissan & Infiniti brands segmented CRM program to include the production of digital, direct mail, point of sale and dealer support tools and enrollment premiums.

DASHBOARD ADVERTISING: Art Director/Client Service (2004)

Developed and conducted a province wide competitive analysis project for The Ontario Toyota Dealership Association for which I visited hundreds of dealers, applying the findings to better understand the clients consumer relationship and grow it’s marketing efforts. I also provided creative direction and conceptualization for various clients’ digital, print, event and gorilla initiatives.

McCLEERY McCANN HEALTHCARE: Art Director (2004)

Provided creative direction, art direction, and copywriting for print advertising and corporate video productions. Worked directly with the producers in developing the overall look and feel of numerous video projects, specifically script editing, video packaging, titles and transitions.

THE TORONTO ARGONAUTS: Promotions (2004)

As a member of the Toronto Argonauts promotional team, I represented the organization at home games and local events in order to promote football and increase brand awareness through selling merchandise and tickets, holding autograph sessions, handing out schedules and talking football. Implemented ideas that improved the effectiveness of the on-site elements, while data mining the insights and loyalties of the community and target market.

URBAN CONSUMPTION: Marketing/Creative Consultant (2003)

Conceived the corporate name and designed the corporate logo, assisted in their introductory alcoholic beverage product development by outlining the marketing plan, providing research, product testing, creating the product name logo and package design.

PRIMETIME PRODUCTS: Marketing/Creative Consultant (2003)

Conceived the corporate name and designed the corporate logo. Assisted in plastic sports prototypes’ product development by outlining the marketing plan, providing research, creating the product name logo and package design, as well as producing a 3D animated video demonstrating the product as a concept in form and functionality.

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT: Client Service (2002-2004)

Ministry of Community, Family  & Children’s Services – Client case management that includes the opening, closing, transfer and budget management of client cases. Printing and authorization of cheques, determining benefits and eligibility, and providing phone/ public counter management directly to clients and client service teams.

Ministry of the Attorney General – Responsible for a variety of duties in several Crown Offices that included; opening and closing crown files, preparing legal correspondence, preparing case disclosure, scheduling pre-trials, management of video/audio evidence library, and providing phone/ public counter service. I acted as a liaison between judges, police, duty counsel, criminal attorneys, victims, witnesses and the accused.

COMMUNIQUE ADVERTISING: Art Director (1998-2002)

Worked directly with account managers, creative directors, live action producers, event producers, designers, post facilities, print shops and a range of clients in creating integrated advertising & communication campaigns and strategies for television, radio, print, web, point of purchase, packaging and direct mail. Clients include Microsoft Canada, Toshiba, The Canadian Football League, Adidas, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Canada Post and United Distillers (Silent Sam Vodka & Le Piat D’or Wine). Teamed within the agency to build a specialized advertising boutique called “Noise”, that developed innovative pitch, research, media, marketing strategies and creative tools focusing on the youth target audience.

GREY MATTER: Game Designer/Concept Artist/Writer (1996-1998)

Working with this video game development company was an excellent experience in creative thinking and adapting technologies through generating digital and traditional artwork to technical requisites, gameplay planning, testing, research, brainstorming and client interaction. I worked closely with a team of producers, 2D and 3D artists, programmers, live action, game testers, sound engineers and animators in developing video games for Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn, and SuperNintendo.

EDUCATION

Ontario College of Art and Design: Graduate of four-year General Arts Program, focusing on fine art, communications and design. Currently attending Continuing Education classes in various Adobe Creative Suite Programs.

George Brown College: Completed three half-year courses in the application of Macintosh programs Quark, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Sheridan College: Completed the one-year media fundamentals course, consisting of film production, television production, script writing, audio production and photography.

The Second City Training Centre: Improvisation Training Program

Creatively Speaking Program: Completed the eight-week course focused on speaking, presenting and selling to both large and small groups, while applying various techniques and styles within real and simulated scenarios.

Business Enhancement Program: Completed the twelve-week course that focused on small business development and marketing.
